Hypochondria: The Impossible Illness

Do you believe there could be any way possible to overcome hypochondria without the aid of medication/therapy?

brief reminder: This article is about hypochondria which is the belief in which you have a disease or sickness that is really non-existent but are completely convinced you are suffering from it.

I don't really believe on average that you can overcome hypochondria on your own, however there may be a few cases where this may have occured, but they are extremely rare. Because this is a psychological disease, it means that you can't think the way "normal" people can and if you can't do this, I don't know if you could change your mind about having a disease when it has already poisoned your brain and made you believe that you are suffering from it. I hope that there might be a way to do this, but I believe that these people already believe this, they would have a very difficult time believing other wise, especially doing it on their own.

I think that it is possible to cure yourself from hypochondria on your own without any outside help. If your mind has the ability to make you truly believe that you are sick, then it has to have the same ability to cure its self without any help. The same goes with physical diseases. If you can get positive results from the belief that you will get better, then there is a good chance the same mindset can help you cure yourself of hypochondria, in almost the same way that a placebo could help you in place of a drug through the beliefe that it is working.

I agree with Whitney, I believe it would be almost impossible to cure yourself of hypochondria without the aid of medicine. This is a disease of the mind. These people are convinced they have a disease that they don't, however, the idea is already in their head and can't be changed until their "disease" is "cured". It would be the same as if someone had cancer but you tried to tell them it was all in their head.

I don't think you can cure yourself of hypochondria without the aid of medicine. Since this is a psychological disease, these people dont think the way others think, so they wouldn't think of curing themselves. They are convinced that they have this disease, and are too focused on that then curing themselves. I hope one day people will be able to get over these psychological diseases, but in reality i don't think its ever going to happen.

I don't think you can cure yourself of hypochondria with out getting professional help. Since this is a disease of the mind then you most likly can't tell yourself you need help, someone is going to have to make that desision for you since you are not able to make that call by yourself.

I agree with Jonathan that there is a way you can cure yourself from hypochondria without the aid of medication/therapy. A person with hypochondira made him or herself believe that they have a sickness or disease. So it is possible to make that person overcome hypochondira without any medications. This is a disease of the mind. If you make your mind believe you have a disease that is not existent, then you are capable of making your mind believe that you don't have a disease.

i dont think so because they believe in something that is not exsistant and they might believe that no matter what people say so therapy is needed and also they might need medicine to stay focus.
