Do you believe that the Olympics improve international relations between nations, or does competetion just create tension between them?

In the past Olympics I believe that the games did create tension between certain countries and does create more of a completion between certain countries, to prove to each other that there better than one another with out going to war. For example in the 1980 Olympics there was that tension between the United Sates and the Soviet Union. And us winning that hockey game proved that we can beat them and were not inferior to them.

I don't believe that the Olympics create good relations between countries. It is all about a competition and the main goal of a competition is winning. People don't remember who had the best sportsmanship, they only remember who had the most medals. This being said I don't think the true purpose of the Olympics is to create good international relations. I think they are only to promote nationalism within all the seperate countries. It is the one time where everyone in the country is united in rooting for the same team.

I do believe that the olympics improved international relations between nations, but over time, it got more competitive. I don't believe it creates much tension because countries have bigger issuses to worry about than sports.

I don't think it improves any relations with countries because the point of the Olympics is to beat your opponents and prove that your country is better, this will create tension because it will cause feelings of jealousy that will end up in hate for one another. There is definitely a lot of friction between countries especially rivaling countries. Ex, Apollo Ohno vs the three chinese who fell and lost.

I believe the olympics could have the potential to improve relations with countries. However, the heart of the olympics is a competition, and a competition is to prove who is best. So when countries go up against each other and the whole world is watching, its hard for me to believe there is no tension between countries and competitors.

i think that the olypics probably influences relations with other countries. probably because the atheletes enjoy the sports that they do and love to compete. Also im sure other countries get super excited cheering on for their country as we do. Although it may be a downer when they lose, its still a good time to watch and be entertained watching the olympics.

I believe the Olympics can not improve the relations between countries because the main objective of these games are to compete and beat other countries. These games do the opposite of improving relationships, they actually create rivalries and possibly enemies if bad sportsman ship occurs. For example, in the 1980's winter Olympics, the Hockey game between the American and Soviet Union teams, there was a lot of tension between the two teams and still today there is a lot of tension between both teams.

I do believe that the Olympics improve international relations between nations. It helps the countries look past whats going on in the world and focus on the athletes more. But on the other hand, there are countries that you always want to beat no matter what the situation.

I believe that the olympics do increase relations between nations just because of the USA vs China. No person from the United States was aloowed into the country of China and they made an acception just because they wanted to compete in competition. These countries set aside their previous views and compete for the good nature of loving sports. It is possible for countries to put aside their differences and some do for competition.
