Leave Marijuana Regulation to the States

As most people know, the Obama Administration is considering revising the law against Marijuana. My article gave facts and statistics that both aid to the repeal, and go against repealing the law.

Some background:
The 21st amendment to the constitution repealed the ban of alcohol, and that is what the debate is for over marijuana. Many people think that it should be up to each individual state to decide who marijuana can be used. Proposition 19 is similar to the 21st amendment, in that it would allow people 21 years old or older to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use.

Why people like it so much:
  1. relaxing,
  2. helps tune into music
  3. foods can taste better
  4. time slows down
- all effects depend on the person, what they choose to do, how they are feeling at the time, and whether of not they consumed alcohol or any other drugs with the marijuana

So my question to you....
Pretending that you lived in the state of California, and were going to vote to either support or reject the use of marijuana, would you get rid of the law or keep it? Why?

I'd support the use of marijuana because it would actually help our economy. The underground popularity or marijuana being brought to the surface and letting the drug into our economy can be beneficial. There would also be significantly less arrests.

If i lived in California i would get rid of the law because it would make things a lot easier. Yes, the use of marijuana is pretty bad but people are continuing to do it anyways, just like alcohol. So by making marijuana legal, it would help a lot of police from arresting people and they could save a lot of money.

I would support the use for marijuana because i feel that it should be up to the individual if they use it or not. But i agree that it should be only for 21 and older that can carry it for personal use. I would just get rid of the law because it can help crime to decrease as well as make the government some money as well. All they have to do is make it legal and put a tax on it and that could help out our national debt.

If I lived in California I would support the law and allow it. It is not a bad idea, because it good for the economy. It's also better for the police department because there are so many people getting arrested for it being in their possession, this way it would not be a problem. Its up to them to smoke it or not.

I think I would support the law of the use of marijuana because a lot of the criminal problems in our society include this drug. So a lot of police officers and other higher officials would be able to focus on more important things like kidnappings or homicides. I do agree people 21 years of age or older should be able to use it because it would be just like the alcohol law which is fair.

I would support the law because people should be allowed to do whatever they please as long as they're not hurting someone else and know how to control the use of it so they don't abuse it. Also, of all the drugs, cops care more about hard drugs, not marijuana so it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

If I lived in the state of California, I would support the law and allow marijuana to be in use. I would put some restrictions on the law, like you have to be over 21 to sell it just like drinking, so the use of the drug would be safe.

I would support the use of marijuana because it obviously has more pros than cons. Legalizing marijuana would help the economy, and bring down crime. Also people smoke marijuana if it's legal or not anyway.

I would support the law if I lived in California. The way I see it if someone decides they want to smoke marijuana then it’s only going to hurt themselves not other people. I’m not saying I think we should make it easier for marijuana users to get and use the drug, what I’m trying to say is that I don’t think we should people will do stupid things if it’s legal or not. If marijuana was legalized I believe lawmakers would have to put an age limit on who can use the drug or not. I wouldn’t want fifteen-year-old smoking marijuana because it’s legal. I would make it so you have to be at least over twenty-one before you could legally use the drug.

I think that there is definitely some benefits in legalizing marijuana. They brought up some great points for example, jobs. I also think that if the government grew it then other drug trafficking would be probably a little harder. It no doubt boost economic profits. Just like alcohol the same rules apply no driving under the influence, and you have to be 21 to use it that's sounds reasonable.

If I were eligible to vote in the state of California, I would support the law and allow marijuana to be in use, however, I would put certain restrictions on this law like the age limit people are able to use, sell, and buy marijuana. For example, the appropriate age limit would be the same as the drinking age, 21.

I would support the law because either way people are still going to smoke marijuana. Also if they made it legal, the state would be able to tax it.

I think they should ban all substances like alcohol and marijuana, while they're at it, why not stop producing and selling cigarettes? take away our freedom why not? I mean, it all does the same things to you right, cigarettes make you light headed and relaxed. Alcohol makes you crazy and outgoing, unable to drive, what does marijuana do? Make you lazy and have slow reactons? I havent been in one car crash or anythig with one marijuana user ive ever been in a car with, including myself. I think it should be legalized but for a certain age group of 21 and older, though it may start controversy in the streets with huslters n dealers, but there's always other options for them to make money, maybe they'd try getting a real job. who knows? -Adrian

If I lived in California I would support the use of marijuana. This is because so many people are getting arrested and all this stuff because they have it on them, are selling it and/or smoking it. It's illegal and people do it anyways--you're not going to stop people from doing it obviously. Although this should be legal, it should be legal for a certain age group like 21 and up just like alcohol. I think it would help out the government.

I would vote in favor of the law because I think having anti-drug laws should be left up to the states and is a huge waste of money. Hundreds of millions of dollars are funneled into the "war against drugs" every year, when this money could be going toward other things, or simply a budget cut. Drugs will never disappear, so the best option is to legalize and tax them.
