The Brain Slows Down Time

Have you ever seen how time slows down in movies when the actor is extremely scared, or needs more time to think over the situation? Well that is exactly what this topic is about.

A researcher named David Eagleman studied this phenomenon where he had a set of people record the time they felt it took for them to reach the ground from an extremely scary drop on a thrill ride. Later, they were asked to watch as other fellow participants were dropped. After the calculations were done, they found that those that were being dropped felt that they were in the air for a 36% longer fall than those they observed. This may also be the case when you are on a roller coaster, compared to when you watch others on it.

Question: Do you believe that the brain can actually slow down time? Or does it just seem like that to give the person experiencing it more time to figure out how to deal with a stressful or fearful situation?

I believe that the brain slows down time when it wants to. For example if your about to spill a cup full of water, it seems like it is going in slow motion and gives you time to react and catch it. In football if your about to catch the ball from a pass thrown to you, it seems as if the ball takes forever for it to get to you. I think that the brain does this on purpose because it wants you to think you have time to react to certain situations.

I believe that the brain slows down time when it wants or needs to. For example, when things are busy especially at work I feel like time speeds up, but at the same time when things are slow in general I feel like the world stops. I think that it does this so that you have more time it situations that might be more strenuous.

I do believe that the brain does slow down time when it needs to. In a movie i watched in Human anatomy it talked about the brain slowing down in emergencies. for example they showed a clip about men fighting a forest fire and the fire was gaining on them really quick. There minds slowed down to think about what ythey needed to do to survive. In the end there mind ahad saved there life.

I believe that the brain does slow down time when its opted to. As Breena said about the Human anatomy video it did talk about it slowing down when its in a critical stage. Its the reaction at that impact moment that gets the brain activated and slows down time to somehow shield itself though it could damage some other parts of the body possibly but most of all it gives us or the person time to make choices.

We all have an internal clock that affects us in many situations so I do believe that the brain does slow down time. I think it does this to give us a chance to change what's about to happen or protect ourselves. For example, if someone's swinging to hit you, you're the only person that sees it coming slowly because your brain is trying to give you a chance to protect yourself and move out the way.

i do believe the brain slows time down. when you in a scary situation or the example above, when your falling it does seem like it's taking forever. certain situation you react to differently so in some cases the brain will slow down so you can figure out what you need to survive.

I believe that brain can slow the time. People, when faced with a really scary situation it will be like hours for them. For example, when I watch a scary movie it is like hours for me when I watch the main character under attack with the antogonist. After that my brain will relax a little. That time is like never ending.

I do believe that the brain slows down time. That is because it cant comprehend what is going on and needs time to think everything over all at one time. For example, yesterday I figured out something that I was shocked to hear. It's personal so I wont go over it was but when it was said, my world stopped for a couple seconds. I was so shocked that I was at a loss of words and I wasn't able to comprehend what was going on. I could tell that my brain had tricked me into slowing down time.
