Why is it so Important to be right?

This article discussed how we're taught from a young age to always be right. If we are wrong, it can be looked at as embaressing.

We sarcrifice relationships and friendships by arguing our points just to prove we are right. It takes away from our happiness because of the arguments. We sometimes don't even stop to think about what we are doing.

Would you rather be right or happy?

I would definitely rather be happy than right because I feel that it's true that the constant need to be right fuels a lot of arguments that can possibly cause even bigger problems. However, I have found that I am the most happy after proving myself right. Unfortunately, I am not always right and therefore I should probably learn to accept the fact that I am sometimes wrong in order to avoid arguments and stay as happy as I can possibly be.

I would rather be happy than right because the fact that a person wants to be right about something causes a lot of arguments and disagreements with each other. Just let the person be right but know whats right for yourself withought arguing with eachother. Its more important to be happy, thats when you dont have to worry about loosing someone close to you. We should agree with the fact that not everyone's always right there are these moments in life where you might be wrong about something.

I would rather be happy than right. I don't mind being wrong because I usually end up learning something when I am. This actually makes me happier than being right in the situation. Like most people, I don't like to argue so if someone is telling me I am wrong, I'm going to let them talk and tell me what they think I am doing/saying that is wrong so we can have a mature converstaion about it.

Right about what? I feel the obvious choice here is being happy, I love being satisfied with the way my life is unraveling and having the events that take place in it be enjoyable to me. That's far more appealing than getting a test question correct, or is my being right saving another human life? I feel this question is too vague to have these options be mutually exclusive.

The clear answer is being happy. Although I also believe that being right may cause happiness, but it's only for a moment. Being right shouldn't cause relationships to fall apart if what is being discussed has a clear right answer. For example, if you friend and you are discussing whether the sky is blue on a clear and sunny day. Someone is clearly wrong and someone will be right. It shouldn't cause your friendship to fall apart. Even in those situations though if you truly care for the person just accept your differences and move on regardless of who's right or wrong to be happy.

Being happy is much better than being right. This is because of the simple reason the feeling of being right only last temporarily while being happy has more of a long term affect, unless someone really pisses you off. Being wrong about something is nothing compared to being unhappy. Who cares if your wrong, your probably learning something knew anyways. Being happy will help you get through your day much easier :)

I would rather be happy, but I do feel that being wrong, can leave like a sinking feeling in a person at times. I always want to be right, but I don't feel that it should get in the way of relationships or friendships. If I feel that it can get in the way, I will side with the other person or admit I am wrong depending on the situation. Because in the end, if you ruin a relationship for being right, you will end up not being happy.

Just like everyone else has said, I would rather be happy. Being happy goes a lot farther than being right. Happiness could last for weeks or even months but the "good" feeling you get from being right is really only for a few minutes. Dont get me wrong I love being right but nothing beats being in a good mood which is what happnes after you are happy.

To me being happy is everything. If it means losing an argument over something that probably isn't worth fighting for, than I can take that. Many people have that phase in their lives where they feel like they should always be right and will continuously argue to prove it. In my opinion it takes maturing and being able to swallow your pride to admit you are wrong. Once you can accept the fact that you aren't always right, for the most part, there should be no embaressment.

I feel that if you put your "partner" or whoever it is that your having an arguement with first, its always better to be happy than to be right. Because take a look at what your pride is costing you just because you want to be right. You may be right in the argument although you partner thinks otherwise, but you will never be wrong when you put your partner first or whoever it is that your arguing with. Many people believe that being right IS being happy. But we all eventually learn that our rightness may be limiting our happiness.

The damage that could be done to the psyche is just catastrophic. Being right about everything gives the individual the euphoria that s/he controls the universe in that small moment of triumph. What really surprises me on why people find importance in being right all the time is that it feeds the ego to the point of false completion; thinking all knowledge has been gained when really they were just lucky a few times.

I think that I'd rather be happy. It is in human nature that we are not always going to be right, and I think that if being right was the only thing that could satisfy you then you would become very anxious or controlling because you'd always try to be right. Also it says that we sacrifice relationships and friendships to be right. So if you always wanted to be right then you would probably end up with very little relationships in your life.
