Stress and Your Social Memory

Memory and stress dont go well. When you are under stress you should not panic, just calm down and don't make a big deal.

Managing your stress could be done so easily by five simple steps: practice "deep" processing, think while you speak, repeat the person's name after you are introduced, correct your mistakes early, and don't get rattled if you make a mistake. Social memory should be improved when you follow these steps.

Do you feel that when you're under social stress that these steps could help you get through the situation?

I do believe that atleast one of the five steps in helping me memorize things. I teach a class of second graders, and on the first day of class the hardest thing is to remember their names. I can say that it does help repeating the kids names in order to memorize them, though I can make a few mistakes from time to time. Something that I do try to stay consistant with is correcting my mistakes right when I make them so that I can remember the right way next time. Sure iI'll still make the same mistake a few more times after that, but if I keep correcting myself or if someone keeps correcting me, then sooner or later I will get it right. The hardest thing is to try and not get "rattled" by my mistakes. I always tend to freak out about it and need to learn how to just get over it and not make such a big deal.

Yes, i think these steps would help a person with memory a lot, only because repeating the name helps process it, and it would easier for you to remember the name that way if it repeated rather than to just hear it. I also feel that it is a good idea not to get upset when someone's name is not remembered, because i feel that would bring more stress onto yourself.

yes, i think that these five steps could help you get through a certain situation that has to do with stress. when you forget things it may bother you all day and sometimes you get mad and stressed out because what you forgot is sometimes very important. If you sit there and think before you talk you can remember things better, but if you talk right away you may get mixed up and have a loss to what you were about to say. I also think repeating someones name is very helpful because your making your brain remember these names by processing the names more than once.

I think think that some of these steps may work to a certain extent. I feel if u sit down and think things through all day then you won't have a life and I feel like you would be stressing your life out more , just because you are sitting and thinking to play with your memorie.
