Procrasination

Almost everyone procrastinates. We see it as putting something off until the last minute. Psychologists say it is the reason of seeing the intention of doing something, but not acting immediately to accomplish it. Studies haves been condusted and statistics show that 20-25% of the population procrastinates

Causes of procrastination are thought by pyscyologists are striving for perfection, anxiety, rebellion, fear of failure, under pressure makes the best work, and other theories. An equation was created to see what causes people to procrastinate: Likeliness of procrastion= E xV/I x D. E=expecting to succed, V=the value of the task to oneself, I=impulsiveness, and D=immediate recognition or gratification. But something was missing; the guilty feeling of knowing you shoudn't have put it off.

Question: Based on your own experiences, do you agree or disagree with these findings, why or why not?

I do agree with the finding that Sam shared with this class from my own experience. Personally, I am not a procrastinator based on the fact that it bothers me when I am unorganized and still have things to do. But, this proves her point when she speaks about only some of the population is a procrastinator. I also know of people who are procrastinators and most have the traits that were said in her presentation. For example, I most agree with what Sam said when procrastinators feel that they work best under pressure. This is because it is usually their best excuse.

Based on my past experiences I would agree with these findings. I use to be a procrastinater and when I procrastinated it was usually because I didn't feel like I could do my best on the subject. I would usually wait until the last moment or when I have nothing else more enjoyable to do before I tried to complete it. The only part I didn't agree with is the feeling of guilt afterwards. I would accept that I didn't do the work.

I do believe that everyone procrastinates but we were so used to doing it that we don't notice it. I put things off until the last minute because i do best when i am under pressure and rather than starting something right away.

I do agree that most people procrastinate. From my experiences I have realized that procrastinating is not always the best thing to do but I procrastinate most of the time anyway because I do well under pressure. Even when I feel like getting an assignment out of the way there is always a part of me that wants to put it off. I have also noticed the characteristics of a procrastinator in myself and some of my friends who procrastinate as well.

Procrastination is definitly a huge part of almost all high schoolers lives. Sometimes I feel like I have to because somethings have greater priority values than others so we put off the others until the last minute. Getting out in front of things makes me feel better because I know I at least have them started but it is just too tempting to put things off rather then to do the right thing and to do them a little at the time. I used to be better about not procrastinating but the people who I am around the most have influenced my work habbits somewhat as well. I find if i do something at the last minute I feel very accomplished when I do get it done.

I do agree with these findings. I personally am a big procrastinator, I know that I should do the assignments but, when it comes to doing them I never do them until the day before it is due. I have always been like this, but despite this I believe I complete the assignments well with the pressure and with my fear of failing I always find motivation to do them even though I do not feel like it. I also do believe that I am not the only individual that does this; I know that there are many people who are like me and feel the same way, which proves the statement that states that “almost everyone procrastinates”.

I think more than 20-25% of people procrastinate, whether they feel like they're doing it or not. I mean, I procrastinated until last night to post a comment!! I procrastinate on a daily basis and it frustrates me, I just feel like doing what I want to do before I do all my work which is why I do it later most of the time. But when I do it before doing what I want to do, I feel so great haha.

I do, on some level, agree with these findings. In particular, I appreciate the long-deserved recognition of fear of failure as one of the causes of putting something off. I often think I'm smarter or better than my work shows or can show and then lose interest in the activity or assignment altogether, having deemed it pointless to try if all I can achieve is second best. However, I also believe that this theory shouldn't be considered a definite conclusion for why everyone procrastinates. Keep in mind downright laziness and aversion to hard work. For example, I haven't even touched my research paper yet, and have to change my topic-which I need to do-because I simply haven't "gotten around to it"-Jake O'Donnell

I do agree with the findings in the sense that people believe the best work is done under pressure because i am a procrastinator myself and I beleive I do my best work at the last minute. I do fear failure but i am just so used to knowing I can do great things under pressure that I don't really know of anything else. I wouldn't consider myself lazy though because I still get the job done and I work hard on it I just don't come home right away after the work is assigned and begin to work on it. I take my time and still do well.
