Does Attending College Increase Young People’s Drinking?

The article "Does Attending college Increase People's Drinking" is mainly about how people who go to college drink significantly more than those who do not.

A study conducted has shown that "44% of students reported recent heavy-drinking episodes" while in college.

Researchers believe that it is due to the lack of parental supervision and the fact that universities somewhat support this habit by allowing resources such as shot glasses to be sold in school stores.

Question: Do you think that people who attend college drink more than those that don't?

I believe people who attend college that live on campus drink more than those who don't go to college or who live at home. I think this is because there is no supervision and no parents to tell you if you can go out, when to be home by, and they do not see how drunk you really are.

I think that most students in college do drink more than those people who do not attend college. With no guidelines to follow and lots of free time, students can drink if they want to, and whenever they want to. Of course there is always going to be exceptions to this. But, overall, yes, I believe that students in college drink more than the average person who is not attending colleg simply because they can.

In my opinion college students drink more than others because they have more freedom and no parental rules to abide by so most of them go wild because noone is there to stop them or give them any consequences. Another reason why I think college students drink more is because partying is what the students do for fun and most of the parties have alcohol so they do it for fun with their peers.

I do that that kids who do attend college do have a higher chance of drinking compared to kids who don't go to college. I think this is because they are given more freedom so they don't know how how to handle time management. I think that kids who also go to college don't know they're limitations because they've been at home their whole lives. They don't really know how much they can handle. This may have something to go along with pressure from other kids at the school too.

I believe people who attend college drink more than those who dont. This is for many reasons. The students at college are independent, they make decisions for themselves, and do whatever they want. Due to the fact that there is no parental supervision on campus or their parents telling them what they can and cant do. They only have their peers who party and drink for fun. And because their peers are drinking it will pressure them to do the same.

I believe that people who attend college drink more than other people who don't. I think this is due to the peer pressure of other students and the new freedom and independence that a college student has found. I don't think that having someone go to college definitely makes them drink, I think it depends on the person's beliefs and their personality.

i do believe that kids who stay on college campus drink more than kids that commute. This is because kid's don't have a parent or guardian standing over them watching their every move, then again in high school, this reason didn't stop some kids. Another reason is because kids are set off on their own now, independent lives away from home means you have to learn for yourself, experiencing life and making mistakes is just part of the process. On the contrary, i don't believe that all kid's that live on campus drink, i think drinking takes part in how you were raised and what values you were taught. A student that has had a negative event happen with them involving alchohol could party and still not drink.

Yes, i do beleive thst students in college are more prone to drinking because they dont have parents around to constantly be on top of them. Also, in college almost every party has drinks which increases the students to think and adapt this custom of drinking with peers. In college people drink because theyre looking for an experience, and a way to get away from the real world.

Yes I do believe that young adults that attend college are more likely to drink more then people that don't go to college or commute. to me I think that students that commute have their parents to monitor their drink because the student still has to follow rules that their parent make. But kids that live on campus have no parental figure to monitor their alcohol intake. Also kids are away and have to learn to be on their own and can be easily influenced by peer pressure.

i believe students attending college are more likely to have a drinking problem. They don't have to worry about parents checking on them after a party because most students will not be living with their parents no more. Also , the environment in campus usually everyone wants to have a good time.

Yes, college students do drink more than those who don't attend college. I believe this is true because college is a new chapter in life where there is no real supervision. Compared to high school where you lived with many rules made by your parents for the last how many years. In addition to being sort of confined to rules for many years, college students also live on campus with not much to do. The students want fun, especially after all papers and studying during the week so they use partying as a way of fun.

I do believe that those who attend college drink more than those who don't. When people get to college there isn't as much supervision and their parents aren't there to tell them not to drink. Also, maybe it gets tempting for some college students to drink because they are getting closer and closer to becoming legal to drink. I think drinking maybe a social aspect during college which may cause students to drink more than those who don't go to college.

I think that those who go t o college do drink more than the kids who don't go to college. They do not have their parents teir with them so they do not think twice before they drink. As for the kids who didn't go to college they are most likey still living with their parents and think about their parents before they drink.

i believe that people who attend college will end up drinking more them people who don't. this is because they will be on their own and have alot of freedom to do what they want. so they would go to a lot more parties and get more pressure to drink. Basicly, there is more parties, and alcohol at college so more you will be most likely to have more to drink there then at home.

I think people that go to college more or more able to drink more than others. First off they've been confided with their parents and now that they're free they think doing things that they were once not able to do is okay to do. Since there's no enforcement on punishment as much as there would be when at home, students take advantage of it. There's also more pressure because there's no one to tell you what's right from wrong.
